Broken Believers

“The sacrifice God wants is a broken spirit. God, you will not reject a heart that is broken and sorry for sin.” Psalm 51:17 (New Century Version)

Brokenness comes in a variety of forms.  Broken bones.  Broken hearts.  Broken promises.  Broken gadgets.  But brokenness in the life of a believer is another matter.  When the Bible tells us that God is looking for brokenness in our lives it doesn’t mean He is hoping for pain or handicap for us.  He is rather looking to see us lay aside our stubborn insistence in having our own way in all things.  He is trying to train us to walk His way.  He is teaching us to obey and to follow Him to a place of greater and prolonged blessing.  That blessing only comes when we are broken in the same way a strong horse is broken of its will and trained to follow the reign of its master.  It is the result of removing all supports in your life and casting yourself in utter trust upon your Lord, finding in Him all that brings fullness to life.  Yes! There is blessing in brokenness, the blessing that comes from submitting to the will and plan and love of your Heavenly Father.
